Requesting Access

PAIS access is managed through research groups. You need to be a member of a research group namespace before you can use the platform.

Who can access PAIS?

Anyone affiliated with the University of Auckland who is part of an active research project. Access is sponsored at the research group level — your Principal Investigator (PI) or group administrator arranges access for group members.

Research groups

Namespace Research group Who to contact
rg-compsci Computer Science Your PI or the CS Dept admin
rg-abi Auckland Bioengineering Institute Your PI or ABI operations
rg-general General shared capacity PAIS team

Adding a new research group

If your group wants dedicated GPU quota (condominium model), contact the PAIS team. Groups that contribute GPU hardware receive priority access to their allocated resources, with idle capacity shared across the platform.

How access is provisioned

Once your PI confirms your membership:

  1. A Keycloak group is created for your research group (or you are added to an existing one)
  2. You are assigned the group role in the pais realm
  3. Your University of Auckland identity (UPI) is federated via Tuakiri — no separate PAIS account is needed
  4. You can log into:
    • PAIS Portal (API key management) — https://portal.pais.auckland.ac.nz
    • Open WebUI (AI chat interface) — https://chat.pais.auckland.ac.nz
    • Kubeflow (notebooks, pipelines) — https://kubeflow.pais.auckland.ac.nz
    • MLflow (experiment tracking) — https://mlflow.pais.auckland.ac.nz

Tuakiri login

All PAIS services use Tuakiri Single Sign-On. Select "University of Auckland" at the Tuakiri discovery page and log in with your UoA credentials (same as the student/staff portal).

Checking your access

Once provisioned, visit the Portal and confirm you can log in:

https://portal.pais.auckland.ac.nz

If your login fails or you see a "not authorised" error, your group membership may not yet be active. Contact the PAIS team with your UPI and the research group name.
